Saints worst game, I was there! Watford 5 Saints 2
This page is dedicated to the worst game I have ever seen in all the 27 years
of watching Saints. Its also the worst game I have ever seen locally at Saturday
or Sunday league. Even the recent game I played in for Saints fans vs Fulham
fans away where we lost 7-2 wasn't as bad.
The Watford fans applauded our coach on the way out from the ground, we did
the same, we saw a committed and organized team thrash us to pieces.
It all started ok , I got the coach from SMS and we got to the ground early
6.15pm. I had a burger outside the visitors turnstile. Then off for the obligatory
beer I think in Mac's not far from the ground. Then off back to the ground with
Saints and Watford fans a like. I chat to the bloke selling `look at the stars` fanzine.
I tell him we have a depleted side and don't expect too much, he says the same
and I think `well that's good at least they wont be to sharp and a problem`. He tells
me the club are in financial difficulty and 13,000 to 15,000 will be the crowed,
its a long time since I was back here in the 80s but the new stands look very
impressive.
Inside its a good view from the Vicarage Road Stand and the Saints fans are
in good voice with 2400 and some paying on the night which was a good decision
for the club.

Game over, or did it ever start? |
to be continued..
My comments on the fall out from this game.
In 27 years of watching Saints I feel F***** O** with this club and its
priority on money.
I have a loft full of Saints stuff, got 15 odd shirts, 12 flags, 8 scarf's,
spent over £200-00 on stuff to get decked out in the FA cup run, but does the
club utilize that spending well? No.
All of those fans paying top wack for the tickets, let alone the expense for
away games, and again does the club respect the fans and value their
loyalty...No.
We get the usual rubbish...`that's the price you have got to pay for premiership
football`...well in a very short time it wont be. Sheffield United £17, Watford
£10, Leeds still think their a big club @ £22..but in general a huge cut in
income. If the club take the P*ss and think £400 is a reasonable price in the
Coke league they have a big surprise on the way.
Its not just the 5-2 loss, and I was there believe me it was a kick about for a
pub team but the sheer audacity from the club as a whole not to face facts and
say some thing. Why not boost the fans with some true opinions and attempt to
commit 200% to the next game.
The clubs going no where fast and all fans know it, not just saints fans,
even non football fans, cricket fans have told me this was going to happen this
season...business business business...money money money...well if that's what
Lowe wants as the priority then keep out of the football decisions and get help
from those who can advise to what's best.
Ultimately its now down to the players, if they cant get us a few wins then we
are down. Who ever plays holds the destiny of the club be it reserve players or
the first team players or new faces (unlikely). That's the bottom line as Lowe
would say...`its a results business`
He could do a Bolton and get 5 players to boost the squad if injuries still
continue and give Saints a fighting chance. But if we don't create chances in
the first place we are not going to score and we need to do that consistently,
then we need strikers. if some are out don't bother waiting for their fitness
get others in. If it means 15 new players from Jan to May and only 1 game each
so what, just get it sorted.
The fans have done their bit for years and Lowe better get real to the fact many
may not give up all their time to football and spend their money and time on
other things.
I don't expect Lowe to say long anyway and he needs his return on his
investment, but the players may and the club may have second thoughts next
season if they wake up in Division one...
Do fans need to have another Branfoot situation to make the Club wake up? I
don't think we can be bothered if they cant..
