Welcome to Division 3 football and Saints got off to a fairly decent start with
a huge crowd of 20,000 which is far better than any of our skate rivals had in
Division 2 or 3.
At least this Division is affordable compared to the overpriced Prem where
ordinary players go for £10m and ultimately its the fans that pay their wages.
At least now we don't have any `Big Earners` but just a basic team still with
young players. It will remain to be seen if we can get mid-table or higher with
the team we have. Perhaps the Prem will disband or collapse by the time we
get back to top flight and have a real chance to compete on an even basis as in
the 80s and 90s without having to go bust in order to step up to another level
season by season. The Prem and Championship relegation years were the dark days
and a total waste of resources for the club. Now at least its back to football
apart from the -10 points it should be enjoyable.
With a new owner and manager (Alan Pardew ) Southampton FC are at least stable
now but it wont be big spending a buy yourself promotion or success unlike other
clubs but at least it was a good game and saints actually played as a team!
Players IN: Dan Harding, Graeme Murty and Rickie Lambert, Jacob Mellis (Loan)
Season Comments:
Life appears tougher in Division 3. What will not help will be the fact Saints
have a team half from last season and half will end up new faces trying to blend
in to make a team. We are probably 2 months away from playing as a team, and
maybe more as if new players cant make an impact straight away it just
replicates what we had last season. An almost team but not quite there to ground
out the 3 points when needed. Ok its early some say but Saints need 3 points
soon to clear the -9. I don't want to be watching a stale mate game in January
with only 24 points gained giving 15 as a real total. I think AP has the
experience and contacts to get virtually half a team before January (including
ones already signed) as Saints need experience this season. Saints should really
go for at least mid-table and look at next season to bring on the young players.
CB and wingers look a must. Oh well at least we are not in BSS!
Another late goal conceded against Brentford Nylons from poor defending, early
days but someone needs to organize the team from central defense and two wingers
need to keep wide and get the crosses in, midfield needs to push up more.
Saints now struggling in this division as BR beat us at home. Saints looked a
tired team by 70th min and can't score enough goals to secure a win. Too much fancy football
could prevent creative play and is haunting Saints just like last season. Saints
MUST now WIN against Gilingham to stand a chance of eroding the 10 points to
5th place.
Let us Pray for a win!
And Wins we shall receive! with much better performances home and away now ,
also clocking up some goals with Lallana, Trotman and new man Papa finding the
net.
Tough game next week at home though as MKD visit who have scored a lot of goals
and in 3rd place. But Saints can do em!
Great draw at orient with a mass of Saints fans, Lambert gets two.
Solid win against Charlton in JPT and now to play Norwich in ASF.
Awful game vs Brighton of all teams, this was back to the Burley side to side
days or England at their worst. Pointless passing and switching with no player
able to take on a defender. Long balls into the keepers arms. Hopeless and a
waste of bloody time, should have stayed home and cut the grass with a pair of scissors.
That's now put us firmly in the relegation with a tough game vs Norwich on
Saturday and that does not look a good prospect.
